Does Your Company Need Cloud or Cloud Storage?
Obsah
When we look at a storage, it just a tip of the iceberg. The true cloud begins underneath the surface.
Quite often it happens that people imagine Dropbox, iCloud or Google Drive when you say the word cloud. But how far does cloud really go? When we look at a storage, it is just a tip of the iceberg. The true cloud begins underneath the surface.
But even though cloud infrastructure is not the first thing that comes to your mind, it doesn’t mean that it cannot bring you much more benefits than just hititng the tip of the iceberg.
Tip of the Iceberg – Storage
Cloud storage that many people long for is just one of the applications that run in the cloud environment. It is therefore not cloud but more a drive space that is not placed locally in your device but in the cloud. We have all gotten accustomed to our computers being equiped with a certain size of the drive space – it used to be around 250 GB but nowadays we are more in the area of terabytes.
And the basis for our work on computers used to be Microsoft Office. Word, Excel and Powerpoint have always been installed into our device and then via an icon we started it up – the programs were installed on the computer and our creative outcomes have been saved to the C drive (apologies to the Mac community).
But technologies have advanced and so we are looking at a little bit different principle of running the basic programs and storing their data. For example the Microsoft Office budle became the Office 365 – or you can select from the substitues like Google Docs and the like. To run these revamped versins, we need to have access to the Internet and the app usually runs in the browser. No installation, everything available online, from anywhere and anytime. All yout data are then saved to a cloud storage that is connected to the specific service.
So you data are no longer being saved to your local storage on your device but in a data center of the provider that runs the service. And at that point, you don’t really care which cloud is being used.
Own Cloud and Storage View – Virtual Private Server
Now let’s move to the company level. We arrive at company IT that can be either physical or virtual. We have mentioned the physcial infrastructure in several of our latest posts, you can find them in the Blog section- When we focus on the virtual world, we find the first version of the true cloud – a virtual privare server- This is a way of running company IT that allows you to install and run for example a cloud storage – but this time, you are the one responsible for running the cloud infrastructure.
You don’t buy a physical server but a preconfigured virtual one. And then the routine is the same – you select which apps you want to run.
The Most Modern Cloud Level – Virtual Data Center
To get the most out of running your company infrastructure – which can host your cloud storage – you can use the virtual data center. For the most part, it is the most efficient way. If your company requires more than one virtual machine (server), the virtual data center ensures the maximum adaptability top each activitiy that you need to run from these servers.
So we are not just talking about a cloud storage, but the whole viártual data center providing the necessary environment for your IT. You can run the storage, accounting, e-shop, tools for developers, ERP and their parts. The scope has no limits.
Which Cloud Are You Looking For?
If you need space for your personal documents, photos and other media, you can choose from the non-ending selection of cloud storage providers – apps that run via the Internet and your data store in a data center selected by the provider of the service.
But, if you are looking for an alternative to your current IT – physical servers or virtual servers – then you don’t want a storage but cloud ifnrastructure. Based on your needs, you can select the cloud in the shape or form that fits you the best.
