About the Company

Beavia (formerly I Love Hummus) is a family business that focuses on the production of chickpea spreads called hummus and fermented vegetables called kimchi. It supplies its products to more than 600 stores all over the Czech Republic and also to restaurants and companies.

Production requires specific conditions which cannot change beyond the given limits; if that were to happen, the products couldn’t be used and that would lead to considerable financial losses. Also, it is important to guard the conditions not only to save money but also to predict the state of the refridgerating devices.

To watch over everything that needs to be checked and to minimize loses, the company utilizes the option to automate its processes for condition checks, problem solving and the preparation of the IFS audit. All of this thanks to the DASHPOINT.

Challenge

During production, the company always pays close attention to high quality during all steps. To check the functionality of the refridgerating boxes and fridges that store the products, the company used to use hand-written data that were later saved to an Excel file.

This process was very labor intensive with low efficiency score. This was mainly due to wrong data being written down. Then it was necessary to create the IFS audit reports manually from all these collected data points and reports regarding the information for all the problems that were solved.

One of the milestones to truly reconsider the implementation of an automated system was a situation during which a fridge broke down on a Friday afternoon and the company got to it too late. The result were spoiled products with the total loss amounting to tens of thousands of crowns. It was necessary to change the approach towards these situations and focus on preventing rather than solving problems.

The worsening economic situation also added to the challenges. It resulted in a rapid growth of energy prices. Also the portfolio has been widened so the changes had to be adapted to various kinds of products.

Beavia was looking for a solution that would not only enable it to check the states of the individual devices but it would also automatically inform relevant staff about problems. It also needed to predict the failure of individual refridgerating devices including watching the consumption.

This solutions also had to ensure automation of the IFS audit report process. All of these conditions had to have been fulfilled by one service and the company found it in the form of DASHPOINT.

Solution

The company received a full service from A to Z. Together with the TCPro technicians, they have selected the correct sensors that were deployed to all the cooling appliances. The sensors were recording temperature data from all the devices, energy consumption of each fridge and also the humidity in the production space. Boiler is also being monitored; therefore, it is ensured that problems related to outages and heating are under control.

The sensors were then connected to the DASHPOINT platform and Beavia thus gained an online access to the web interface that has been tailored to its needs and ensured the full monitoring. The environment has been later adapted to the changing needs and changes to the portfolio.

The company set, who should receive the notifications about the non-standard situations – for example a sudden drop in temperature or an open door – to ensure a timely uncovering of an issue and informing the correct person. DASHPOINT watches over 24/7 o the right peerson gets the information on time.

DASHPOINT doesn’t only watch the production. Its universal use was seen when Beavia needed toé guard the entrane to the building and ensure top sercurity. Even this task was no problem for the TCPRO team. The entrance points have been equipped with sensors and corresponding automations have been set to act as guards.

Outside of an IoT turnkey solution, DASHPOINT also brought about one more change. Since the automated solution collects and evaluates data, the platform also includes the option to automatically generate a report that includes precisely the data needed for an IFS audit.

It includes all the records about the functionality of the devices, as well as incident reports, timestamp of a solution and also identifies the person that solved the issue, in which manner and within which time span. No more document browsing is necessary. DASHPOINT has one button that generates the necessary report.

Result

DASHPOINT brings about benefits on two levels. All information related to the functionality of all connected devices are available to the company management online. At the same time, the system also shows notifications, reports and information about problem solving. Technicians have access through a web app to live information about temperatures in fridges or open doors. They can monitor their state, run basic diagnostics of emerging problems without the need to be present on site.

Costs related to the operation of cooling boxes are lowered thanks to predictive analysis because simple graphs show clear deviations from standard behaviour and this the company can react immediately prior to the device breaking.

Collected data are stored safely in a database long-term which enables data analyses and work with historical data.
