The Neverending Story - Company Website
Obsah
I don’t know about you but our company has redesigned websites perhaps a thousand times. Here change, that change, there change – the market changes, people’s behavior changes, recommendations change. But all of this is really annoying.
There are a lot of influences but I noticed that for us specifically, the biggest obstacles to a finished website were three things.
Because I understand how annoying the constant reminders that websites need to be redone are, I’ve put together a few tips on how to avoid getting annoyed.
🤓 Functionality is Not Equal to Perfection
In general, in our society, we are not used to “not finishing” things. But the view of what is and is not done has generally moved to another level. It’s not that I won’t post something that isn’t perfectly fine-tuned anymore.
I will borrow a term from the field of development – MVP, or minimum viable product. Today, the key is to deliver something that is able to satisfy the needs of users and customers, it can always be fine-tuned later, and in fact, modifications are always being worked on.
The website is the showcase of the company. And when you walk around the display case, are you more interested in choosing the best, or if the salesperson crammed all the products into it?
I have found that the right choice of a few words is much better than a perfect page with all the information. The goal is to impress, not to do the work for everyone in the company. So if you don’t have an e-shop…
🙃 Adjustments Have Their Limits
Of course, I’m only talking about the appearance of the website – when it comes to providing products and services, it has to be at its best. Why does web customization have its limits? Nowadays, people are changing their outlook very quickly and they are changing it faster as the days go by.
You can’t please everyone. It is much more important to stick to the lesson that Google taught us with its approach to the search algorithm. Authenticity is the key. The company should try to communicate in a way that expresses itself in its own voice and adapt where appropriate.
This is a great advice especially for creating company websites. Company culture doesn’t change as often as people’s opinions, so if the company keeps its face and changes things every now and then, web doesn’t become a pain in the neck.
👮 Law Abinding Oversight
Cookies were a great thing while they stayed on our plates but today, cookies bother most people. But it will not be the only measure awaiting us with regard to the protection of user data. At least in the EU, we see legislation on the rise that protects the right of users to determine what data they provide.
And of course it’s no fun. Compliance with legislation is one of the basic building blocks of every company. Therefore, it is advisable that there is someone in the company who will check compliance with legal requirements.
🤔 So What Now with the Website?
In fact, everything is aimed at companies having websites that correspond to the company they are. It probably sounds like a cliché, but if a company is itself in its online presentation, it will do the best. And we, the managers, can relax a little thanks to this.
