Where is the cloud future taking us?
Obsah
It is said that change is life, but probably people at the time when this saying was created could not even imagine how fast the changes would be.
Look back just a few years ago, when we had to be on WiFi to connect with the world and the pinnacle of our social lives were cheesy profiles on MySpace and then the fledgling Facebook.
At first glance, it seems that progress and changes in our lives are related to a lot of changes, but when we think about it, it is thanks to cloud technologies that we were able to move to these parts in the first place. But what does this history of ours tell us about how the cloud will affect our future? And what will this future look like?
How we used to function some time ago
Not so long ago, companies had their own IT under one roof and ran all the necessary applications on their own server. At that time, IT guys were still quite busy with their work, and no one was dealing with centralized security laws. Viruses and hacks were the prerogative of do-it-yourselvers and teenagers.
Cloud was then the music of the future and only completely hi-tech companies got a whiff of it. But it is quite strange to realize that this is not a history reaching back a multitude of decades. It is the image of this millennium.
How Covid has changed how we operate
Working from home and operating in companies purely on a cloud level was quite unheard of until then. However, the covid pandemic has forced us to move our lives almost entirely to the virtual world.
And how grateful we were for the cloud back then. Cloud applications have taken the functioning of companies on their shoulders, and thanks to this, life did not have to stop in many companies.
Online meetings have become the new standard, and if it weren’t for the IT guys, the economic disaster would have taken dimensions we couldn’t even imagine at that time. But the change cost some of these guys a job, exactly for the reasons we mentioned. There was no more bare metal in companies.
How we operate now
Remote work has become a fairly common practice and this is reflected in the job description and the way employees work in the company. A lot of corporate IT has moved to cloud services. But this led to companies falling into the trap of inefficient IT.
So, on the one hand, we save on costs, because we let employees work from home and solve business negotiations online, on the other hand, some have found themselves in a very precarious situation, because the cloud “eats” as a glutton.
Where is our operation moving?
And this very topic is the paradox of the cloud question. As companies have caught on to disadvantageous cloud services, there has been a wave as fast as the first adoption of this type of service.
We probably won’t go back to that way of working, which was characterized by full personal contact. And here we can probably agree that it is not entirely a shift for the worse.
But in the area of cloud adoption and moving even more to cloud services, it seems that someone will completely abandon the public cloud, others will prefer to choose another path of this technology – local cloud, private or hybrid cloud.
As you can see, for some companies, the direction of the cloud future is away from the cloud. For others, on the other hand, it’s full steam ahead. But all these aspects indicate that companies will increasingly have to focus on the right selection and ongoing optimization. Otherwise, it will be as if, during covid, people held to an opinion that video conferences are not needed.
