Look Back at 2023
Content
Now everyone’s thoughts are on holidays, food, fairy tales, skiing…
Which is why it no longer makes sense to focus on any new or challenging topics. I would just like to look back on this year and summarize what has been happening. Some things worked out, some didn’t, but it’s good to look at both.
Project Not According To Plan
Probably the biggest story of this year was the deployment of our cloud CLOUDPOINT 2022. If you wonder that there is a wrong year, then no, it is not the wrong year. The project just didn’t go as planned.
We had a great plan to improve our cloud environment and ended up with a completely different solution in a different location. So almost nothing went according to plan, but luckily that doesn’t mean it didn’t work out. But I plan to cover this topic more from a manager’s perspective, so at least you have something to look forward to.
Our technicians prepared a great two-part webinar where they describe all the problems and how they had to solve them. But I warn you, they are technicians, so it is very technical. Maybe except for the first part and its first part, where our CTO deals with the project area. (English subtitles are on the way, so far the program is in Czech).
Part I
Part II
In the Name of Understanding
Our sales department often encountered the fact that cloud services, cloud infrastructure and virtual environment in general are still very unclear areas for many companies. That’s why I’ve tried this year to explain the areas you might encounter as a manager in an IT department.
I covered common topics related to the operation and understanding of the role of IT equipment. At the same time, I also touched on principles such as exit strategy, cloud repatriation or legacy systems. It sounds terrible, very technical, but when a manager understands their role and impact, it can be a lot easier for the company.
And with the last article I started a new trend – what has failed. A manager solves a lot of things and others can learn from it, it just needs to be shared. I started with the article I became a victim of a cybercrime that never happened.
Just ti recap:

Changes in IT
When I look at the development of the market, I must state that groundbreaking things have started to happen.
First, we’ve seen a huge increase in the involvement of artificial intelligence in the day-to-day operations of businesses.
Second, a lot of companies took advantage of cloud repatriation and left global providers because the conditions were no longer there.
Third, companies began to realize that IT infrastructure needs to be adapted to specific activities, so that it is no longer just about one big indefinite monolith.
We can expect that these trends will permeate the IT functioning of companies next year as well.
Rebranding
A big question mark for our company was the branding of our company and products.
- Merge everything into one or have more products?
- Stick to one style of brand names?
- How much can individual products be divided into services?
- How to name sub-services – clearly or artistically?
It is not easy, because IT is an area where explanation and correct understanding are extremely important. And it doesn’t always work out.
Summary
Just like any other year, 2023 had its ups and downs. But the main thing is that we all manage to move forward thanks to both directions and thus move IT and the company to a higher level.
